The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) provides funded mental health counselling services for people affected by crime. At Vedder Counselling, our Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) offer trauma-informed therapy, evidence-based treatment, and psychological support to help you regain stability and recover at a safe pace.
We offer CVAP-covered counselling in Chilliwack, Salmon Arm, and across British Columbia through both in-person sessions and secure online counselling.

Stress responses often show up after the incident itself. Counselling helps you process fear, worry, and internal tension so you can feel grounded again.
A loss of safety can affect sleep, energy, decision-making, and daily functioning. Counselling supports you in rebuilding emotional security and confidence.
Whether the effects are immediate or delayed, trauma-informed support helps you understand what you’re experiencing and build healthier coping strategies.
After an unsettling event, it’s natural to feel uneasy. Counselling helps you deal with these feelings while strengthening long-term resilience.
CVAP offers support for anyone affected by a crime. This can include paying for counselling with approved therapists, helping with medical needs and making sure you feel safe. You can also get some financial help for things the incident has disrupted. Victim services can guide you through paperwork and connect you with other community resources.
CVAP counselling is all about helping you feel safe and supported while you heal. We take a gentle and trauma-informed approach so you can make sense of your reactions without feeling pressured. We also work on building a sense of security, managing emotional triggers and learning practical skills to handle daily life and feel more confident in yourself.

CVAP counselling is available to people affected by crime, either directly or indirectly depending on eligibility through the CVAP application. This includes victims of crime, family members or loved ones impacted by the incident and witnesses or others involved in the aftermath. Even if you feel mostly okay, counselling can help you process stress, anxiety or emotional effects early before they start to build up.
You or a victim service worker can submit an application online or on paper. Eligibility depends on your connection to the incident and its emotional, physical or financial impact. You will need to provide details of the incident, a police file number if available and any supporting documentation. Once your claim is approved, CVAP will explain your benefits and counselling coverage. With approval in place, you can start meeting with a CVAP-approved therapist at Vedder Counselling.
Vedder Counselling offers a steady, private, and calming space where you can sort through your experiences and move toward genuine healing.
Whether you meet with us in person or online, our team is here to ensure you receive the support you’re entitled to.

Eligibility depends on your connection to the crime, the emotional or physical impact, and whether you can provide the required documentation. Many clients are surprised to learn they qualify, even if the incident happened months or years ago.
Coverage depends on your claim approval and funding limits. Many people receive enough sessions to support their emotional recovery. Additional sessions may be requested if clinically appropriate.
Yes, you can begin therapy at any time, but CVAP will only reimburse sessions after your claim is approved. Some clients choose to wait, while others prefer to start sooner for emotional support.
